There was not much time on our first Sunday to get through the materials but it was good to have a few members join in our discussion. This next Sunday (Dec 12), John Albertson will be sharing his own personal history and experience as a church member and we will talk further about the social opportunities around us. How does this affect our participation in church? What are the new models for us to follow? This Sunday, the Deacons will be introducing the new proposal for church membership. It will be a lively and interesting discussion.
The following is the text posted at the top level at the start of the class. I've moved it here as a comment since it is no longer current. ___________ We will begin a new discussion on Dec 5 concerning the new social networking realities that we all enjoy today. How does this affect us and our relationships? With the enormous opportunities for "community" from the block we live on to cyber communities, how do we find time for all of them? With all of that around us, how does this affect our membership in our local church? How does it affect our view of the global church?
Facebook and other social networking sites brings us closer to each other(?) Is that true? If I know more about you, am I closer to you? Does the mundane nature of most of the posts open us up to each other or close us off? Does the immediate nature of our communication tools enable us to touch each other better or is it a placebo that only stands in the way of relationships?
In the end, our discussion will move towards membership at Rainbow and what it means and what it should mean. What do we WANT it to mean?
There will be a lot to discuss. I hope you will join us in the new SS class starting Dec 5.
The purpose of this discussion board is to provide a forum for discussion of movies, books and adult Sunday school topics of interest to members and friends of Rainbow Mennonite Church.
